Episode 16 with Jeff Street

SelfDefenseGunStories_Header_v2-2Introduction- Welcome to episode 16 of Self-Defense Gun Stories.  I’m your host Rob Morse.  This week we’re joined by self-defense instructor Jeff Street.

Jeff- Hi, Rob.  Together, we report and analyze examples of armed civilian defense.  Our first example took place last month in Oklahoma.

First story-  A woman called the Tulsa police because a man was acting very oddly.  The stranger was rolling around in her yard and then knocking on her door.  A second neighbor called police because the strange man was hiding in her bushes.  She thought the stranger was intoxicated.  A 70  year old man was working in his yard when the intoxicated stranger hit the homeowner from behind.  The stranger hit the homeowner in the head again, knocking the homeowner down.  The strange man then sat on the homeowner’s chest and continued to beat him.  The homeowner drew his gun.  He shot the stranger, and the stranger stopped beating the 70 year old homeowner.   Police arrived within minutes.  The victim was not charged with a crime.

Jeff- The neighbors that called 911 and stayed in their homes were wise.  I want all my neighbors the be well trained, then maybe they can stop the Violent Criminal Actor before I have to. Our elderly man was wearing a gun but unaware or in denial of the potential danger.  He probably hasn’t had much training.  If he had he most likely would have noticed the odd behavior and avoided it by going inside.  The elderly and disabled are a special class.  Much more likely to be believed as victims.  I don’t dye my hair, partly because my grey hair makes me more believable as a victim and more likely to be shown respect by authorities. This case looks similar the the final moments of the George Zimmerman incident.   Very clearly justifiable as self defense.

Our next story takes place in Florida.

Second Story- A man and a woman were were sitting in their car outside a bar in a Plant City, Florida.  The man was sitting behind the wheel when a 19 year old male got out of his truck, and pointed a gun at the couple. The couple did not know their attacker.  The male driver drew his own firearm and shot the robber.

Jeff-  Who is going to be the designated armed driver tonight?

In Florida you are not allowed to carry a gun in a bar.  We don’t know where this fellow had his gun.  He was able to get to it quickly. Probably had the widow down.

Looks like hormones and alcohol were at play. John Farnam says don’t hang out in stupid places with stupid people at stupid times.  This may have qualified as a trifecta.

John Farnam also teaches a vehicle defense class which when done right by someone like John is very valuable.  Sometimes I need to talk to clients from my parked car. I always back in so I can see better and I am able to drive away.  My doors are locked.  My windows are up and my car is running.  Not great for gas milage but life is precious.

Our next story takes place in Indiana

Third story-  A 19 year old thief ran into two armed victims.  In the first incident, the thief tried to rob a woman as she walked up to her home.  The thief presented his gun, and the intended victim presented a gun of her own.  The thief ran.  The intended victim called police.

A few minutes later, a homeowner confronted the same thief as the thief entered his home uninvited.  Again, the thief presented his gun, and the intended victim presented his gun in defense.  The thief ran.  Kokomo police found the suspect, along with a stolen handgun and stolen property.

Jeff- Looks like the 1st woman had her gun on her as she was about to enter her home.  We tell our students to stay in condition yellow all the way into their home until they have cleared it and locked it back up for the night.  Don’t forget to turn on the Alarm.

The second homeowner probably was wearing his gun at home.  In neither case did anyone get shot.  Authorities often tell us (not as much as they used to) to cooperate with the attacker.  They say that you can’t win against a drawn gun.  Without proper training people win quite often.  With proper training their odds go up enormously.

There is a podcast, maybe you have heard of it?  Its called the Polite Society Podcast.  If every law abiding citizen  was properly trained and armed at all times I think we would live in a Polite Society.

Exit- That wraps up this episode. Jeff, thank you for helping me today.  Where can our listeners find out more about you?
