Introduction- Rob- Welcome to episode 40 of Self-Defense Gun Stories. This podcast is proud to be part of the Self-Defense Radio Network. I’m Rob Morse and this week we are here with self-defense instructor Jenna Meek. Hi, Jenna.
Jenna – Hi, Rob.
Hi to our new listeners, and welcome back to our regular listeners. Together, we report and analyze examples of armed civilian defense. We inform you about the news, and I hope we inspire you to defend the people you care about.
Our first story took place this month in Kentucky.
First story- I’ve heard people say that they will only wear their firearm if they go someplace where they’d be at risk, so are you armed at home on an ordinary Friday afternoon? A homeowner heard someone trying to get into her house. The thieves tried to open the front door for several minutes. They made plenty of noise even though it was three in the afternoon in a tree lined a Louisville, Kentucky suburb. Then the thieves went to the back door and tried again. The homeowner grabbed the gun she’d bought last year. It seemed like hours, but was actually less than 30 minutes until the robbers concluded no one was home and broke the window on the back door. The female homeowner shot the intruder as he entered her home. He died at the scene. His accomplice was arrested for armed burglary and murder during the commission of a felony. There is no mention if the homeowner calling police before the break in.
Jenna – I am glad that the homeowner is ok. I also can’t help thinking that if she had 30 minutes warning that I hope in that time frame she had called the Police.
Jenna- Our second story took place in Oregon.
Second Story- Are you armed at your camp site in the woods? A couple returned to their campsite after dark. The man was driving. He parked their truck at the remote campsite outside of Butte Falls, Oregon. That is when a man approached them out of the darkness. Their attacker alternately pointed his pistol and flashlight at the man and woman. Then he shot at the man, and missed. The male victim ran to the passenger side of the car. The female victim retrieved a loaded rifle from the truck and handed it to her male companion. Both of them moved into the darkness away from the truck. Their attacker pursued them. The male victim shot the attacker as he walked around the corner of the truck. The armed attacker was shot in the chest and shoulder. He died at the scene.
The attacker was an ex-boyfriend of the woman. The attacker was convicted of multiple violent felonies, including manslaughter and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
Jenna- In this situation, other than the female victim handing off the rifle, I think the victims did it right. They tried to get out of the situation and took action when plan “A” failed.
Jenna- Our third story took place in Georgia

Third story- Is your gun with you when you’re at home taking a nap? A 78 year old grandmother was sitting down for an afternoon nap. Then she heard someone banging at her front door. That isn’t how friends come calling in Coweta County, Georgia, so grandma grabbed her pistol and loaded it. As she stepped into the hall, she saw two strangers standing in her house. They looked at her and saw a woman with a gun in her hand. The two robbers ran. Grandma called the police.
The two men and their female getaway car driver were arrested nearby. Police found evidence of prior burglaries in the car including a stolen gun. One of the robbers was a convicted felon and so an unlawful possessor of the firearm.
Jenna- Quick thinking by grandma. It’s not easy to have a clear mind when being awakened suddenly, by anything, let alone a bang on the door.
